Cyber Security Boost for UK Firms

In January, the government announced new measures that it hopes will help UK businesses when facing future cyber security challenges. The announcement details several new, free resources designed to help businesses recognise and combat cyber threats, strengthen the government’s National Cyber Security Programme and further the work done by Cyber Growth Partnership in order to expand the cyber security sector in the United Kingdom. Cyber Attacks Targeting SMEs on the Rise

In 2015, cyber crime became the most common criminal offence in the United Kingdom, with about 8 million cases. Despite these findings, 44 per cent of UK business do not believe that they will be a target of a cyber attack, according to industry research, and 71 per cent of cyber attacks are aimed at businesses with fewer than 100 employees. The reason is simple—generally, SMEs think they are too small to be valuable to hackers and thus do not invest in cyber security or cyber awareness training. Watch Out for a New Wi-Fi Scam

Unsuspecting travellers have been the target of a new cyber wi-fi scam, which hackers use to steal travellers’ personal information. Cyber criminals are able to gain access to this sensitive information by enticing travellers to use a Wi-Fi hotspot that is not password-protected. Generally, these hotspots are set up in heavily trafficked areas—such as hotel lobbies, airports, in tourist areas or even coffee shops. (read more) "Watch Out for a New Wi-Fi Scam"
